Your Private Transfer From Geneva to Tignes

A private transfer from Geneva to Tignes covers 221 km, or 137 miles, and takes approximately 2 hours 55 minutes in good conditions. Airport Executive runs this route as a chauffeur-driven journey for your party alone, from £351 to Tignes Le Lac, with no shared coach and no stop at another resort. Your chauffeur meets you at Geneva Airport and drives you to your accommodation, or to the nearest permitted drop-off point where the village restricts vehicles.

Tignes is a high resort spread across several villages, from Les Brévières at 1,550 metres up to the main villages at around 2,100 metres. The drive is motorway and fast valley road as far as Bourg-Saint-Maurice, then a long climb past the Lac du Chevril reservoir. After an early flight, most travellers are glad to hand that final stretch over, and on our Tignes runs the Chevril dam is usually where anyone who dozed through the motorway wakes up.

We run Geneva Airport transfers to resorts across the Tarentaise, and Geneva sits within our Switzerland destinations network. Tignes shares the Tignes Val d'Isère ski area with its neighbour, so if part of your group is staying over the hill, we run Geneva to Val d'Isère transfers as a separate route.

Whether you are bringing children and a boot full of ski kit, filling two chalets with friends or taking a corporate team to the slopes, a private transfer gives you one vehicle, one fixed price and nobody else's timetable.

What Your Transfer Includes

  • Room for skis, snowboards, boot bags and hard-shell cases alongside your passengers
  • Fixed pricing agreed at the time of booking, with no surcharges on the day
  • One way or return, booked together or separately

How Much Is a Geneva to Tignes Transfer?

A private Geneva to Tignes transfer starts from £351 for the 137-mile journey to Tignes Le Lac, which takes approximately 2 hours 55 minutes in good conditions. The price is fixed when you book, and the vehicle carries your party only, with no other passengers and no extra stops.

The other villages, Le Lavachet, Val Claret, Tignes 1800 and Les Brévières, are priced when you book, once we have your exact address.

Three things move the figure: the size of your group, where you are staying in Tignes and your travel dates. A couple with two soft ski bags and a party of eight with boards and hard-shell cases need very different vehicles, from a comfortable estate car up to an executive minibus. Dates matter because the school holiday peaks are the most heavily booked weeks of the season.

Our price is for the vehicle, not per seat, so the more of you who share it, the less each person pays, and the vehicle still leaves when you land and goes only where you are going.

Once you have booked, nothing on the day changes the number. No meter runs through a queue at Albertville, and snow on the climb does not become a surcharge. If the mountain slows the journey, the extra time is ours to absorb.

Areas of Tignes We Cover

Tignes is a resort of villages at different heights, linked by free shuttle buses, and the official resort guide groups Le Lac, Le Lavachet and Val Claret together as Tignes 2100. Tell us your full address when you book, including the name of your residence or chalet. The detail we chase most often on Tignes bookings is the village, because an address that just says Tignes could be Les Brévières or Val Claret, at opposite ends of the resort.

Tignes Le Lac

The centre of the resort, built around the lake that gives the village its name, with the main concentration of shops, terraces, a cultural space and the aquatic centre. It sits at around 2,100 metres and is the reference village for our £351 from-price.

Val Claret

At the far end of the resort, Val Claret is the village the tourist office describes as festive and sporty, with the liveliest après-ski in Tignes. It also sits at around 2,100 metres and is a popular base for groups who want the evenings close to hand.

Le Lavachet

Le Lavachet sits between Le Lac and Val Claret and is the quieter of the three upper villages. Its lifts are reachable on skis, and the free shuttle takes a few minutes to either neighbour.

Tignes 1800

Tignes 1800 opened in December 2013 between Les Brévières and Le Lac, at around 1,800 metres, and was built around a replica of the church from the old village flooded in 1952. You may also see it searched as Les Boisses, the name of the eight-seat gondola linking Tignes 1800 to the ski area and of the original village beneath the lake.

Les Brévières

The lowest of the villages, at 1,550 metres at the foot of the dam, with traditional chalets and a direct link to Tignes 1800. It is the first village you reach on the climb, so it is the shortest drive of the five.

The tourist office says plainly that in Tignes the car stays in the car park, and its guide to Tignes car parks explains that parking is regulated across the resort to keep the streets clear for snow clearance, deliveries and emergency vehicles, with drop-off areas for unloading luggage. Vehicle access in the upper villages is therefore restricted, and not every residence or chalet can be reached by car. Your chauffeur takes you to your accommodation where that is permitted, or to the nearest permitted drop-off point, and helps you unload there. We confirm the drop-off before you travel.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Geneva Airport

Arriving at Geneva

Your chauffeur will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a name board. We monitor your flight, so if you land early or late, your pickup time moves to match it.

Passport control is the part of a Geneva arrival that nobody can time. The Swiss authorities carry out the checks, and Geneva Airport states that border waiting times are not available. The automated gates are for Swiss, EU and residence permit holders, so UK passport holders should expect to use the self-service kiosks or the staffed desks. A slow queue can cost you a booked coach departure. With a private transfer, your pickup follows your actual arrival, so there is no connection to miss.

Skis and snowboards arrive as oversized baggage, separately from your suitcases, so collect both before you walk through. Your chauffeur will help you load everything into the vehicle.

Returning to Geneva

For the journey home, we agree a pickup time around the descent from Tignes, Saturday departure traffic leaving the resort and your airline's check-in and bag drop deadlines. We confirm the time and place with you before your departure day, and our Geneva Airport transfers page covers the terminal itself.

Vehicles Built for Ski Gear

A ski week travels heavy. Skis or a board, boots, a helmet and a week of warm clothes for each person quickly outgrow the boot of an ordinary saloon.

We size the vehicle to the luggage as well as the passengers. Estate cars suit couples and small families with soft ski bags. Larger MPVs and executive minibuses carry groups of six to eight with full equipment, so a party of friends heading for two neighbouring apartments in Val Claret arrives together rather than in convoy.

When you book, tell us how many ski bags, board bags and boot bags you are bringing, plus anything bulky such as a pushchair. We allocate the vehicle before you fly, so there is no reshuffling at the airport.

Children who have been awake since before dawn should not have to stand in the cold while cases are rearranged. Where a Tignes residence sits a short walk from the nearest drop-off point, we would usually suggest one adult goes ahead for the keys while the children wait in the warm vehicle with the bags.

Winter Timing Tips

Saturday is changeover day across the Tarentaise, and holiday traffic for the upper valley shares the same road up from Bourg-Saint-Maurice. The Tignes tourist office's road information advises against leaving the resort between 09:00 and 10:00 on Saturdays, and points drivers to the Savoie roads service, the resort app and webcams for live conditions. We plan around the busy window when we set your times, which can mean suggesting a pickup time a little earlier or later than you would choose yourself.

Our chauffeurs often leave Bourg-Saint-Maurice in rain and arrive at Le Lac in falling snow, so they check conditions on the climb before starting it. Heavy snow slows that last stretch. The journey time at the top of this page is a good conditions figure, and we allow extra on the days when conditions are not good.

Book early for Christmas, New Year and February half term, the busiest weeks of the season for vehicles and chauffeurs, and particularly for the larger vehicles that groups need.

Flying midweek? A private transfer runs on any day and at whatever hour your flight lands, including dawn departures and late night arrivals, so your travel dates can follow the most convenient flights rather than a shuttle timetable.

The Geneva to Tignes Route

From Geneva Airport, the route crosses into France and heads south on the A41 motorway past Annecy and on towards Chambéry, then turns east up the Isère valley to Albertville. From there the N90 follows the Tarentaise valley floor through Moûtiers to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, where the railway line ends. Most of the 221 km is covered on this fast, predictable stretch.

Some operators quote a shorter routing of around 174 km, which leaves the motorway at Annecy and follows the lake road to Albertville. It is shorter on the map but slower in most conditions, and the 221 km on this page is the fastest motorway route.

The final stretch, about 30 km from Bourg-Saint-Maurice according to the tourist office, is the climb. The D902 winds up past Les Brévières and alongside the Lac du Chevril, the reservoir held back by the Chevril dam, also known as the Tignes dam. Its waters cover the old village of Tignes-les-Boisses, which, according to Savoie's tourism guide to the Chevril dam, was flooded in 1952 despite fierce local resistance. Beyond the lake, the road climbs to the main villages at around 2,100 metres.

As far as Bourg-Saint-Maurice, you can almost set your watch by the motorway. Above it, the weather and the traffic decide.

Which Airport Is Best for Tignes?

Geneva is the best airport for Tignes for most UK travellers, even though it is not the nearest.

Chambéry is the closest, at roughly 140 to 145 km and about 2 hours 15 minutes by road. Its UK flights are limited and largely seasonal, though, so the dates and departure airports you want may not be available. Grenoble and Lyon Saint-Exupéry both sit at around 220 km, roughly three hours or more by road, so neither saves you time on the ground compared with Geneva. If your flights work better through Lyon, see our Lyon Airport transfers.

Geneva wins on choice: more airlines, more UK departure airports and more flight times across the winter make it far easier to find a flight that suits your week. Some regular travellers also point out that, because Geneva is a Swiss airport, a French air traffic control strike is less likely to disrupt your landing, although flights crossing French airspace can still be affected.

Other Ways to Reach Tignes

You can reach Tignes from Geneva by shared shuttle, by train and bus via Bourg-Saint-Maurice, or by hire car.

Shared Shuttle or Coach

This is the cheapest way to travel per seat, and several operators run from Geneva. Shared services keep to set timetables and stop at other villages and resorts on the way, and the return journey can mean an early start from the resort.

Train and Bus

No train goes all the way to Tignes. Bourg-Saint-Maurice is the end of the line, and from there the Altibus S83 bus to Tignes serves Les Brévières, Tignes 1800, Le Lac and Val Claret in about an hour, with skis included in the ticket. From London, Eurostar Snow runs on Saturdays from 19 December 2026, changing at Lille, so check the current timetable. With ski bags, every change means lifting everything again.

Hire Car

A hire car is workable, but the winter equipment, the climb and the parking all become yours. Tignes has about 3,500 spaces from Les Brévières to Val Claret, parking is paid in winter, and spaces can be reserved online for a minimum of 24 hours. According to SeeTignes' parking guide, free outdoor parking in winter is mainly in Tignes 1800 and Les Brévières. The tourist office also warns drivers to be wary of GPS routes, since nearby passes close for the winter.

If you are travelling with ski gear, with children, as a group or to a schedule that matters, our advice is to book a private transfer.

Local Rules on the Road to Tignes

Winter Equipment Rules

From 1 November to 31 March, France's mountain law applies in signed zones across 34 departments, including the whole of Savoie. According to the French Ministry of Ecology's winter driving guidance, vehicles need either four winter tyres with the 3PMSF snowflake marking, or chains or snow socks for at least two drive wheels, kept ready in the boot. It is one or the other, not both. Where a sign makes special equipment compulsory and the road is snow-covered, chains must be fitted. If you travel with us, this is handled for you.

Licenced Operators and Why It Matters

France regulates private hire chauffeurs under the VTC regime. Drivers hold a professional card, obtained by examination and renewed every five years, operators must be on the national VTC register, and two compulsory insurance policies cover traffic and operating liability. Vehicles display a VTC identifier, and picking up passengers without a prior booking is prohibited. Airport Executive is a fully licenced operator.

Parking and Access in Tignes

Tignes' paid winter parking and restricted upper-village access fall to your chauffeur. You have no space to reserve and no car to leave: you are set down at your accommodation or the nearest permitted drop-off point, and the vehicle leaves.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a private transfer from Geneva to Tignes?

A private transfer from Geneva to Tignes starts from £351 to Tignes Le Lac, for the 137-mile journey in a vehicle used only by your party. Other Tignes villages are priced when you book. Your final fare depends on group size, vehicle class, your village and how busy your dates are, and it is fixed at booking with no surcharges on the day.

How long does the Geneva to Tignes transfer take?

Approximately 2 hours 55 minutes in good conditions, covering 221 km. The motorway and valley road as far as Bourg-Saint-Maurice are predictable, while the final climb of about 30 km depends on the weather and the traffic. Saturdays and heavy snow add time, and the Tignes tourist office advises against leaving the resort between 09:00 and 10:00 on Saturdays.

Is there a bus from Geneva to Tignes?

Yes. Shared shuttles and coaches run from Geneva Airport to Tignes, and they are the cheapest way to travel. They keep to fixed timetables, stop at other villages and resorts, and leave when the timetable says rather than when you land. A private transfer leaves once you are through arrivals and carries your party only.

Can you get to Tignes by train?

Not all the way. Bourg-Saint-Maurice, about 30 km below the resort, is the end of the railway line. From there the Altibus S83 bus takes about an hour to the Tignes villages, with skis included in the ticket, or you can take a taxi. It works with light luggage but is much harder with a week of ski gear.

What if my flight is delayed or passport control is slow?

Your pickup follows your flight. We monitor it and adjust the collection time if you land early or late, so your chauffeur is in arrivals when you actually come through. Geneva Airport does not publish passport control waiting times, and with a private transfer there is no coach departure to miss.

Which airport is closest to Tignes?

Chambéry, at roughly 140 to 145 km and about 2 hours 15 minutes by road. Its UK flights are limited and largely seasonal, so most UK travellers fly into Geneva, which offers far more airlines, UK departure airports and flight times across the winter.

Can I book a return transfer from Tignes to Geneva Airport?

Yes. You can book one way or return, and booking both together confirms your return before you travel. We set the pickup time around the descent from Tignes, Saturday traffic leaving the resort and your airline's check-in deadline, and confirm it with you before your departure day.
