Private airport transfers to and from Fukuoka Airport
Fukuoka Airport (IATA: FUK) is one of the most conveniently located international airports in Japan, sitting just three kilometres east of Hakata Station in the heart of Fukuoka city. The principal gateway to the island of Kyushu, it is the fourth busiest passenger airport in Japan and handled a record 26.76 million passengers in 2024, including 8.5 million international travellers. The airport operates two main terminal buildings: the Domestic Terminal, directly connected to the city by the Fukuoka City Subway, and the International Terminal on the opposite side of the runway, reached via free shuttle bus. A second runway opened in March 2025 as part of a significant expansion, and major international terminal upgrades completed in stages through 2024 and 2025 have substantially improved the arrival experience. Whether you are arriving from Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong or further afield, a private transfer from FUK ensures your journey into Fukuoka or onwards across Kyushu begins with certainty and comfort.

Meeting your driver at Fukuoka Airport
Arrivals
International arrivals are processed in the International Terminal, with the Arrivals Lobby on the first floor (1F). After clearing quarantine on 2F, immigration on 2F, baggage claim and customs, you will exit into the 1F Arrivals Lobby. Your Airport Executive driver will be waiting there holding a name board with your name clearly displayed. The Arrivals Lobby is compact and easy to navigate immediately after the customs exit. Note that the International Terminal and Domestic Terminal are separate buildings on opposite sides of the runway, connected by a free shuttle bus taking approximately ten minutes. If your booking involves an onward domestic connection, your driver will be meeting you at the International Terminal as above.
Departures
Your driver will drop you at the vehicle set-down area in front of the International Terminal. Departures check-in is on the 3rd floor (3F), with the security checkpoint also on 3F. Your driver will assist with luggage at the kerbside before you proceed inside. The airport operates under a strict curfew between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM, so no overnight departures are available.
Airport Extras Available at Fukuoka Airport
- Lounges: The International Terminal has two accessible lounges airside. Lounge Fukuoka, reopened in September 2024 following a significant renovation, is located on the 4th floor near Gate 55 and offers 216 seats, runway views, regional Fukuoka dishes, draft beer, sake, shochu, wine, free Wi-Fi and power outlets at every seat. It is accessible to business class passengers, Priority Pass members and other lounge membership programme holders. Lounge TIME International is on the 3F departure area near Gate 56 and is open to all departing passengers on a pay-at-door basis from ¥1,100 per adult, with complimentary soft drinks included.
- Dining and shopping: The International Terminal's departure area underwent a major renovation completed in late 2024 and now offers a broader range of dining and retail options on 3F, including a Matcha Tokyo café and a selection of Japanese food counters. A new arrival duty-free shop opened in 2025, the first of its kind at a Japanese airport, located in the expanded 1F Arrivals Lobby. A large duty-free store covering cosmetics, spirits, confectionery and Japanese goods is available airside on 3F.
- Luggage storage: Staffed luggage storage is available in the International Terminal on 1F, open from 8:00 AM to 9:40 PM. Coin lockers are also available in both the Domestic and International Terminals for shorter-term storage.
- Currency exchange and ATMs: A Travelex foreign currency exchange counter is located in the 1F International Arrivals Lobby, open daily during operating hours and handling 31 currencies. ATMs accepting international cards are available throughout the terminal. Japan remains largely cash-dependent and withdrawing yen on arrival is strongly recommended.
- Observation deck: The 4F observation deck in the International Terminal provides open-air runway views and is accessible before passing through security. A corresponding deck on the Domestic Terminal 4F offers views across to the runway and city.
Airport Timing Tips
International arrivals
From landing to exiting the International Terminal Arrivals Lobby, allow between 30 and 60 minutes under normal conditions. Fukuoka's International Terminal is notably compact compared to Tokyo's airports, and immigration is often faster as a result. Completing the Visit Japan Web pre-registration and obtaining a QR code for both immigration and customs before your flight is strongly recommended and will reduce processing time meaningfully. The busiest arrival periods tend to be when multiple Asian regional flights land simultaneously, particularly in the afternoon. During peak tourism periods in spring and autumn, allow toward the upper end of the range. Note that the airport curfew means the last international arrivals of the day typically land before 10:00 PM.
Domestic arrivals
Domestic arrivals at the Domestic Terminal are processed quickly, with no immigration or customs required. From landing to the 1F Arrivals Lobby typically takes between 15 and 25 minutes, depending on baggage wait times. The Fukuoka City Subway connects directly to the Domestic Terminal from B2F, but if you are being met by a private driver, the pickup will be at the 1F Arrivals Lobby of the relevant wing, either North or South. Please confirm the correct wing with your driver in advance.
Departures
For international departures, plan to arrive at the International Terminal at least two to three hours before your scheduled departure. Security and check-in are efficient given the terminal's relatively compact size. During public holidays and peak periods, additional time is advisable. For domestic departures, arriving 90 minutes before departure is generally sufficient.
Avoid known traffic bottlenecks
Fukuoka Airport sits in an urban location surrounded by residential areas, and the surrounding roads reflect this. The approach from central Hakata and the city can slow during weekday rush hours between 7:30 and 9:30 AM and between 5:30 and 8:00 PM. The route between the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal involves the free shuttle bus, which currently takes approximately ten minutes. A dedicated shuttle bus lane under construction is expected to reduce this to five minutes by 2027. For passengers with a tight connection between international and domestic flights, factor in this transfer time carefully.

FAQs
How far in advance should I book my Fukuoka Airport taxi?
For travel during Japan's peak holiday periods, including Golden Week (late April to early May), the Obon festival (mid-August) and the New Year window (late December to early January), we recommend booking at least one week in advance. Fukuoka is a compact city with strong demand for private transfers during these windows, particularly for routes to Beppu, Yufuin and Nagasaki. For standard travel periods, 48 to 72 hours notice is generally sufficient. Passengers heading to more remote destinations across Kyushu are encouraged to book early to secure the right vehicle for their journey.
Where will my driver meet me at Fukuoka Airport?
Your driver will be waiting in the 1F Arrivals Lobby of the International Terminal, holding a name board with your name clearly displayed. This is immediately after the customs exit. For domestic arrivals, please confirm at the time of booking whether the pickup is from the International or Domestic Terminal, and which wing of the Domestic Terminal applies. Our support team is available 24 hours a day if you have any difficulty locating your driver.
How long does it take to get through security at Fukuoka Airport?
For international departures, security and check-in at the International Terminal's 3F departure area are generally efficient given the terminal's compact size. Allow two to three hours before your scheduled departure time. During public holidays and peak tourism periods, particularly in cherry blossom season and autumn, additional time is advisable. For domestic departures from the Domestic Terminal, 90 minutes is generally sufficient.
How long does it take to clear customs and baggage at Fukuoka Airport?
International arrivals should allow between 30 and 60 minutes from landing to exiting the Arrivals Lobby. Fukuoka's International Terminal is considerably smaller than Narita or Kansai, and immigration processing tends to be faster as a result. Completing the Visit Japan Web pre-registration and obtaining a QR code before your flight is strongly recommended and can significantly reduce processing time. The airport also supports electronic customs declaration via e-Gates. Busier periods when multiple Asian regional flights arrive simultaneously can extend wait times toward the upper end of the range.
Will the driver have my details?
Yes. Your driver receives your full booking details before they set off, including your name, flight number, pickup location and any notes you have added. You will also receive your driver's name and contact number ahead of your journey, so you always know exactly who to expect.
Can I contact the driver directly?
Yes. Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive your driver's direct contact details. You are welcome to reach out to them at any point before or during your journey. Our support team is also available around the clock if you need assistance at any stage.
Is there a backup plan if things go wrong?
Absolutely. Every booking is supported by our operations team, who monitor journeys and are on hand to resolve any issues quickly. In the unlikely event of a problem with your assigned vehicle, we maintain a network of backup drivers to ensure your transfer goes ahead without disruption.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We track every flight in real time. If your flight is delayed, your driver's arrival time is automatically adjusted to match your updated landing time. You will not be charged waiting fees as a result of a delay, and you do not need to contact us to let us know. We will already be aware and responding accordingly.
What happens if I need to cancel last minute?
Our cancellation policy is clearly outlined at the time of booking, with no hidden clauses. For cancellations made with reasonable notice, a full refund is provided. If your plans change unexpectedly, please contact our team as early as possible and we will do everything we can to accommodate you.
Is it possible to request a female driver?
Yes, you can make this request at the time of booking. We will do our best to accommodate you. While we cannot guarantee availability in every case, we treat every request with care and will always confirm whether we are able to fulfil it before your journey.
Am I expected to tip the driver?
Tipping is entirely at your discretion. Our drivers are professionally employed and fairly compensated, so there is no obligation or expectation. If you feel your driver delivered an exceptional experience, a tip is always appreciated, but never assumed.
What size car do I need?
Our booking process guides you through vehicle selection based on passenger numbers and luggage. As a general guide, a saloon is ideal for up to three passengers with standard luggage, an estate suits four passengers with larger bags, and our people carriers comfortably accommodate groups of up to eight. If you are unsure, our team is happy to advise.
Does the taxi have child seats?
Yes. Child seats are available on request and should be specified at the time of booking so your driver can prepare accordingly. Please include the age and approximate weight of any children travelling so we can ensure the correct seat is provided.
