Bern Airport Chauffeur Transfer | Bern Airport (BRN)

Bern Airport, also known as Bern-Belp Airport, is Switzerland's most intimate and efficient air gateway, serving the Swiss federal capital from a single compact terminal just seven miles from the city centre. Where larger Swiss airports mean long terminal walks, crowded security halls and extended waits, Bern handles the entire arrivals and departures process in minutes. For the traveller who values time and calm above all else, arriving into BRN is as good an introduction to Switzerland as the country itself.

Whether you are arriving for meetings at federal institutions, a private stay in Bern, or beginning a wider Swiss journey to the Alps, the Lakes or another of the country's major cities, Airport Executive provides a professional, door-to-door transfer from the moment you step out of the terminal.

With over 30 years of experience delivering professional chauffeur services, we offer peace of mind from pickup to drop-off.

Meeting Your Driver at Bern Airport

Arrivals

Bern Airport operates from a single compact terminal. Arrivals and departures are on the same level, clearly separated and connected by short walking distances. Passengers disembark, collect their luggage and clear any required formalities before exiting directly into the arrivals area.

Your chauffeur will be waiting at the terminal exit with a personalised name board as you come through. The airport's compact layout means there is no ambiguity about where to meet; your driver will be clearly visible as you walk out. Contact details are included in your booking confirmation if you need to reach your driver before you come through.

Departures

Your driver will collect you from your hotel, office or private address and deliver you to Bern Airport in good time for your departure. The road between Bern city centre and the airport is straightforward and typically takes 15 to 20 minutes under normal conditions. Your driver will set the pickup time accordingly.

Airport Extras at Bern Airport

Bern Airport reflects its scale: the facilities are compact, sufficient and refreshingly free of the noise and congestion of larger hubs. The airport's simplicity is part of what makes it pleasant to use.

Lounge

Sky Lounge — Main Terminal

Bern Airport's Sky Lounge is located airside on the first floor of the departure hall, reached via stairs after clearing security. The lounge offers light refreshments, drinks, comfortable seating, complimentary Wi-Fi and newspapers, and provides a calm space to wait before your departure. Access conditions, including whether the lounge accepts Priority Pass or other lounge network cards, should be confirmed directly with the airport before travel at +41 31 960 21 11 or via bernairport.ch.

Dining

Café Take Off — the terminal's main café and restaurant, serving hot and cold meals, sandwiches, pastries and a full range of hot drinks. Located landside in the terminal building and accessible before and after check-in. Given the airport's scale, it is the primary food option; arriving hungry before an early morning departure is worth planning for.

Shopping

A duty-free retail outlet is available in the terminal for departing passengers, stocking the standard range of confectionery, spirits and travel essentials. The selection is limited in keeping with the airport's size. For Swiss souvenirs, chocolate and gifts, the city centre is a far better option and only 15 minutes away.

Timing Your Bern Transfer

Arriving Into BRN

Switzerland is in the Schengen Area, which affects your arrival time depending on where you are flying from. Passengers arriving from within the Schengen Area do not pass through passport control. The arrivals process at Bern is exceptionally quick: from touchdown, most passengers are through baggage claim and out of the terminal within 15 to 20 minutes.

Passengers arriving from outside the Schengen Area, including the United Kingdom and the United States, must pass through passport control. Given the airport's small size, queues are typically short, and the full process from landing to exiting the terminal generally takes 25 to 35 minutes under normal conditions.

Departing From BRN

One of the most practical advantages of Bern Airport is how quickly the departures process moves. Check-in and security typically take no more than 15 to 20 minutes from arrival at the terminal. For most flights, arriving at the airport 60 to 90 minutes before your scheduled departure is sufficient. For passengers on flights to non-Schengen destinations, allow a little additional time for passport control in departures.

For early morning departures, note that Café Take Off may have limited hours; it is worth checking the airport's current opening times if you are relying on the café before a very early flight.

Top Attractions in Bern

Bern Old Town
The Old Town of Bern is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most remarkable medieval city centres in Europe. Its defining feature is six kilometres of continuous arcaded walkways, among the longest covered shopping promenades in the world, which run beneath the sandstone buildings of the historic centre and keep pedestrians sheltered from the rain and snow in all seasons. The cobblestone streets, sixteenth-century fountains, the Zytglogge clock tower and the great rose window of the Minster all contribute to a city that has changed astonishingly little in five hundred years. The whole of the old town is walkable in an afternoon and completely absorbing.

Zytglogge
The Zytglogge, or Clock Tower, is the most recognisable building in Bern and one of the oldest in the city, dating from the twelfth century. On the hour, an astronomical clock on its eastern face performs an elaborate mechanical display of moving figures that draws crowds to the Kramgasse below. The tower also marks the old western boundary of medieval Bern and can be climbed for views across the old town rooftops. Albert Einstein walked past it every morning on his way to work at the patent office during the years in which he developed the theory of special relativity.

Bundeshaus
The Federal Palace is the seat of the Swiss Parliament and government and one of the finest examples of historicist architecture in Switzerland. Built between 1894 and 1902 on a terrace above the Aare river, its green dome is visible from much of the city. Free guided tours of the parliament chambers are available when parliament is not in session, and the esplanade in front of the building, the Bundesplatz, is the civic heart of the capital and the site of regular markets and public events.

Bern Minster
The late Gothic cathedral of Bern, construction of which began in 1421 and was not fully completed until 1893, is the tallest church tower in Switzerland at 100 metres. The tympanum above the main entrance, depicting the Last Judgement, is one of the finest examples of late Gothic sculpture in central Europe. The tower can be climbed on foot and offers panoramic views over the old town, the Aare loop and, on clear days, the chain of the Bernese Alps including the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

Bear Park
Bern takes its name from the bear, and the city has kept live bears since at least 1513. The Bärengraben, or Bear Park, sits just across the Nydegg Bridge from the old town on the banks of the Aare and houses a small resident population of bears in a spacious riverside enclosure. It is a free, relaxed and distinctly Bernese attraction that gives the city one of its most distinctive and unhurried pleasures. The walk across the bridge and down to the river below the old town is one of the finest short walks in Switzerland.

Rosengarten
The Rose Garden occupies a hillside above the Bear Park and offers the finest elevated view of Bern's old town and the great loop of the Aare river below it. Over 220 varieties of roses, irises and rhododendrons fill the terraced gardens from late spring, and the café at the top is a consistently popular spot for residents and visitors alike. The view from the garden's upper terrace, with the old town spires in the foreground and the Alps on the horizon on a clear day, is one of the defining images of Bern.

Einstein Haus
Albert Einstein lived and worked in Bern from 1902 to 1909, and it was in the apartment at Kramgasse 49 in the old town that he developed the special theory of relativity in 1905 — his annus mirabilis. The apartment is preserved as a small museum documenting his life in Bern during that extraordinary period, with period furnishings, photographs and explanatory displays. The Bern Historical Museum nearby holds a larger permanent Einstein exhibition. Together they tell the story of the most productive years in the life of one of the most important scientists who ever lived.

Interlaken and the Jungfrau Region
Bern Airport is the most convenient air gateway for the Bernese Oberland, and the resort town of Interlaken lies approximately 33 miles to the south by road. Situated between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau rising dramatically to the south, Interlaken is the base for exploring one of the most celebrated alpine landscapes in the world. The Jungfraujoch, at 3,454 metres the highest railway station in Europe, is accessible by mountain railway from Grindelwald and Wengen, and the region offers skiing, hiking, paragliding and spectacular scenery in every season.

How will I find my driver at Bern Airport?
Your chauffeur will be waiting at the terminal exit with a personalised name board as you come through. Bern Airport has a single compact terminal and the exit from arrivals is straightforward; your driver will be immediately visible as you come out. Contact details are included in your booking confirmation if you need to reach them before you exit.

Do I need to pass through passport control at Bern Airport if arriving from the UK?
Yes. Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area and the United Kingdom is not. UK passport holders arriving from the UK must pass through passport control at BRN. Given the airport's compact size, queues are typically short and the process is considerably faster than at larger Swiss airports. Allow 25 to 35 minutes from landing to the terminal exit.

Can you take me to Zürich, Geneva or other Swiss cities from Bern Airport?
Yes. We cover transfers to all major Swiss cities and destinations from BRN, including Zürich, Geneva, Basel, Lausanne, Lucerne, Interlaken and the wider Bernese Oberland. All routes are fully priced and bookable at the time of reservation.

Is Bern Airport a good alternative to Zürich or Geneva for travellers heading to Bern?
Yes. For travellers whose final destination is Bern or the Bernese Oberland, BRN is significantly more convenient than Zürich or Geneva. The airport is seven miles from Bern city centre, the arrivals process takes around 15 to 20 minutes, and the terminal is a fraction of the size and stress of Switzerland's larger airports. The trade-off is a more limited range of scheduled routes, particularly outside the summer season.
